In April 2024, as a delegate representing the Sustainable Ocean Alliance from Nigeria, Paul Eweola had the distinct honour of attending the Our Ocean Youth Leadership Summit and the 9th Our Ocean Conference in Athens, Greece. These prestigious events provided a platform for global leaders, policymakers, and ocean advocates to discuss critical issues and innovative solutions for enhancing the potential of our ocean and its resources.
As an ocean leader, Paul’s participation in these events significantly enriched his experience and strengthened his approach to driving ocean conservation efforts in Nigeria and beyond. Notably, he took part in the Sea of Ideas Pitching competition, hosted by Mantis by Innovation. Paul pitched the “Fisher Prep” initiative, developed by Aquaworld_cdi, which aims to bolster the resilience of Nigeria’s fisheries against climate change.
The opportunity to present Fisher Prep to an international audience allowed Paul to engage with potential collaborators and partners, further advancing the initiative’s global impact. The Youth Leadership Summit was an inspiring experience, showcasing a diverse range of passionate young leaders and their innovative approaches to ocean conservation.
The conference showcased updates on marine protected areas (MPAs) from various countries and highlighted renewed commitments to ocean conservation.
