FishMa

About FishMa

FishMa by Aquaworld is a mobile app that helps artisanal fishers record and track their daily fishing activities, share valuable information about fish stocks, climate patterns, and report the status of fishing grounds.

Small-scale fishers are often the first to notice changes in the water, but their knowledge is usually undocumented and lost. FishMa changes this by giving them a simple tool to log catch data (species, quantity, size, location, and methods used) – even without internet access.

The app is built with fishers at the center. It is practical, supports local languages, and works offline, making it ideal for use in remote areas. By working closely with local fishing groups, cooperatives, and community leaders, FishMa is designed to be trusted, helpful, and easy to use.

At the same time, FishMa provides researchers, NGOs, and policymakers with a dashboard that displays real-time trends, enabling them to make informed decisions for conservation and fisheries management.

Why FishMa Matters

  • The first fish monitoring tool in Nigeria is designed with fishers at the heart of it.
  • Offline-first mobile logging for remote and low-network areas.
  • Real-time ecosystem insights for scientists and conservationists.
  • Transforms undocumented knowledge into valuable, usable data.

Who Uses FishMa?

  • Primary Users: Small-scale fishermen (coastal, riverine, inland).
  • Secondary Users: Researchers, marine biologists, environmental NGOs, and fisheries policy bodies.

Our Vision

To empower fishers as ecosystem data owners, strengthen conservation through reliable data, and support smarter decision-making for sustainable fisheries.
