MICROPLASTICS IN OUR FOOD! BLUE MUSSELS IDENTIFIED AS NEW TRANSPORTER OF MICRO-PLASTICS

The menace of plastic pollution can not be overemphasize. The debate of plastic in food chain is gradually being confirmed by research. A study within the intertidal zone at some of southern Australia’s most popular water and more remote beaches found variable concentrations of plastic in blue mussels.

Findings shows that there is urgent need to prevent microplastic pollution by working with the communities, industries and government to protect these fragile marine systems.
