In our quest to connect the younger generation in Nigeria with the ocean, we imbibe different activities in our approaches to achieve our major objective.

Earlier this month, we implemented the Ocean Champions Project in collaboration with Protect Our Planet (POP) in Akure, engaging students of Olufunmilayo group of schools (between the ages of 6-17).  The project involved 3 major activities:

  1. Eco-talk – we sensitized the students about; plastic and marine pollution, poor waste management and actions to promote ocean conservation.

  1. Blue teens training – training and enhancing the capacity of the students on the following theme; Understanding Plastic Pollution and Climate Change and Changemaking for the environment.

  1. Plastic Mop up – we engaged the students in a clean-up exercise to retrieve discarded plastic within the school environment.

  1. Plastic creativity workshop. – we taught the kids how to make different crafts with plastics retrieved from the mop-up.
