Research Advisor

Dr. Toyosi Igejongbo is an Aquatic Ecologist working as a Senior lecturer and researcher at the Federal University of Technology, Akure with a strong academic background, wealth of experience and expertise for international collaboration in ichthyofaunal biodiversity, climate change impacts on aquatic ecosystems, marine resource utilization and community-based fisheries governance. Her research has informed strategies for climate-resilient fisheries management in Nigeria and beyond.

Dr. Toyosi has dedicated over 15 years to the pursuit of a sustainable economy Africa, Europe, United Kingdom, Middle East Asia and North America. She has a PhD in Nigeria and Post-doc research positions at Hull International Fisheries Institute, United Kingdom, University of Las Palmas in Spain and Institute of Oceanography, Gran Canaria. Her professional journey has been marked by participation in significant International projects and partnerships with the United Nations, FAO, and Women for Africa Foundation, African Women in Agricultural Research and Development (AWARD), Partnership for Observation of the Global Ocean (POGO), Ocean Decade, and DAAD. She has over 30 publications and has presented her work in conferences both locally and internationally.

Dr. Igejongbo has represented African science and policy interests on prominent global stages such as the United Nations (CSW67) USA, the World Climate Research Programme KIGALI, Aquaculture America USA, Innovate4Cities Conference CANADA amongst others. She is also a consultant to the Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency (LASEPA) and the Founder/Director of the Blue Guard Alliance Community Development Initiative Nigeria. In recognition of her contribution to the global marine science, she was recently awarded the 2025 ICRS John Ogden President’s Membership Award and now a member of the International Coral Reef Society. Additionally, her ongoing marine sustainability project was recently endorsed by the United Nations Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development (2021–2030).

Dr Toyosi Igejongbo was recently presented an Award of Recognition of Outstanding Mentorship and Dedicated Service 2025 by National Association of Fisheries Student. A passionate mentor and leader, she has supervised numerous postgraduate students and champions initiatives that equip women and youth in fisheries and coastal livelihoods. Through her blend of scientific excellence, cross-cultural engagement and advocacy for inclusive development.

Dr. Igejongbo continues to shape the future of aquatic resource management while inspiring the next generation of African scientists and policymakers.
