The World clean up day held on the 17th of September 2022 is an annual global social action aiming to combat solid waste and marine debris problems.
Aquaworld marked this day in 3 different states in Nigeria which include; Oyo, Ondo and Lagos.
In Oyo state, we held a cleanup Fiesta in Ibadan. This activity involved over 30 youths who picked waste from Agodi-gate to Oje River in Ibadan, Oyo state. Also, a water sample was taken from the Oje River and tested (with the help of the test kit supplied by Ocean Conservancy).
The Akure hub organized a clean-up at Oja Oba (Kings Market in Akure). The hub members joined by volunteers form other organizations and groups clean up drainage channels, the roadside and the market overhead bridge.
Over 50 volunteers showed up for this exercise and people were also enlightened on the need for a clean environment after the cleanup.
Lagos hub held their clean up on the 24th of September in a grand style between 9:30a.m and 2:00p.m in the Gberefu beach, Badagry Lagos.
14 bags of plastics and 10 bags of other waste were retrieved.
