On the 8th of June 2023, the global community united to celebrate our shared ocean, and at Aquaworld, the occasion was both memorable and impactful.
This year’s World Ocean Day was marked by two significant events, held on different days, in collaboration with Mundus Maris asbl and Favour Ayedun, a World Ocean Day Youth Advisor in Nigeria.
On June 8th, we organized a cleanup activity on the campus of the Federal University of Technology Akure (FUTA). The exercise began at the university car park in Obakekere and extended to the Fisheries and Aquaculture Research Farm. The participation of university undergraduates was instrumental in the success of the cleanup, showcasing their strong commitment to ocean conservation.
Following this, on June 16th, we engaged the members of our Blue Teens club at Olufunmilayo Group of Schools in Akure. The day was filled with a variety of activities designed to inspire and educate the kids. These included an ocean-themed art session, plastic craft making, and an eco-dialogue led by Favour Ayedun.
At Aquaworld, every day is World Ocean Day. We are deeply committed to ensuring the ongoing participation of children and youth in efforts to protect our ocean. By fostering environmental stewardship from a young age, we aim to cultivate a generation that is passionate about and dedicated to achieving the healthy ocean we all aspire to.
